In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.” If that’s true, have you considered the depths of tyranny to which we could descend if God-fearing people of all races allow the Nazis, Socialists, and Communists to enlist more people in their program of tyranny than we enlist in our program of Liberty? Obviously, under the American idea that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, an evil majority could claim the right to turn America into anything they want—perhaps another Venezuela, Cuba, Soviet Union, or they might just make it a territory of Red China.
It behooves each of us to study the works of Liberty on which our republic is established– books such as The Federalist Papers and others. And, it behooves us to enlist others in our program and elect representatives that understand and embrace the principles of Liberty, not tyranny. Brian Flowers, candidate for Congress in Mississippi’s Second Congressional District is such a man.
The great Statesman Patrick Henry was a champion of Liberty that we can look to in these dark times when tyranny threatens to overwhelm us. In one of his famous speeches Henry said, “Sir, we are not weak, if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. … The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”
There are over 500,000 people in the Second Congressional District. By working together to promote Liberty as defined by America’s founders, we can enhance the lives of every honest, God-fearing person, regardless of race. Tyrants promise things they cannot deliver without plundering another man’s goods and destroying a portion of everyone’s freedom and moral character. Let’s unite under the banners of Liberty, not tyranny, and become the vigilant, active, and brave people that America needs in these dangerous times.
