State Sovereignty

I will work to restore State sovereignty, which is the essence of Constitutional government and essential to Liberty.

My election to Congress will reinforce the efforts of the good Congressmen already in Washington who are working to restore State sovereignty.  As that work goes forward, a host of evils that we suffer under today will wither and die.  State sovereignty is nothing less than Constitutional government.  Among the abundant proof, we find these words of James Madison, a prominent Founding Father, writing in Federalist number 45: “The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those [powers] which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. [Federal power] will be exercised principally on external objects, [such] as war, peace, negotiation, and [tariffs on foreign commerce] … The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”  In Federalist 46 Madison states that when the federal government oversteps the limits of its power, a general alarm would sound and the States and the people would force it back under control.  That alarm has been getting louder and louder for over a hundred years.  If you’re so deaf that you can’t hear it by now, may God have mercy on us all!
