“Build the Wall.” Is there more controversial a statement? “Abolish ICE,” perhaps? It depends on who you ask.
According to the Left, if you believe in a strong border and a lawful immigration system you’re guilty of human rights abuses. The compassionate thing, these entities insist, is to make America the land of unrestricted immigration. Never mind the human trafficking, drug cartel violence, and importation of illicit and deadly substances. Never mind those who worked, studied, and saved to one day fulfill their dream of legally immigrating to the United States. No, Democrats insist, if you hinder the immigrant invasion, you’re a monster.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Those words belong to a poem engraved on a pedestal on the Statue of Liberty. It’s a sweet-sounding sentiment, but those words ignore reality, especially the reality of the modern world. The Left often quotes the poem in advocating for an unsecured border, but they ignore the impact their open borders policy has on real people. Many of those hurt are the illegals themselves, who pledge thousands of dollars to cartels to help them cross our border. If their obligation to the cartel is not fulfilled, vengeance is swift and heinous. Such scenes of vengeance discovered by border patrol agents are too disturbing to describe. Children are often the innocent victims. The image of the family crossing our border for a better life is marred by these atrocities.
Fentanyl, a potentially deadly opioid drug which is smuggled across the border, is now the number one killer of Americans aged 18-45. Tens of thousands of Americans are killed by this drug every year. Does the sympathy of the open borders crowd extend to those lost countrymen of ours?
The countries that immigrants leave behind are suffering—often under the ills brought about by Socialism. If all the healthy, able-bodied youths leave, who will remain to improve the conditions in those countries and build better societies? These United States are a great place to live, but unfortunately, they cannot shelter and provide for every person in the world. The international community is vibrant and varied, with numerous cultures and customs. American culture is vibrant, too, and customs vary from sea to shining sea, but when America is the only destination for an army of immigrants, legal or illegal, the things we love about America are put in jeopardy– a very undesirable and unsustainable situation, indeed.
Much of the world is home to governments and people that wish to do us harm. In the past, State and federal government worried about foreign agents and terrorist organizations which presented substantial security threats. The number one job of government is to defend against invasion and protect citizens. It is quite a challenging to guarantee safety and security when migrants evade checkpoints, and their identities and histories are not checked and confirmed.
The American worker suffers when companies hire those who are not legally entitled to work here. Such hires are done quietly, off the books, and pay is given under the table and not subject to taxes. It is difficult for Americans to compete for better wages when migrants are willing to work for less than minimum wage.
Of course, none of the arguments in this document mean anything to Democrats, which is quite an expose’: Democrats see illegal immigrants not as human beings, but as future Democrat voters and the key to a never-ending string of victories at the ballot box.
